HD goodness on point

Review: Keeping it basic with the L.A. Girl Pro BB Cream HD, Pro Conceal HD and Pro Face HD Matte Pressed Powder.

This is going to be a review-based post where I will be reviewing three products from the L.A. Girl Pro HD range. These are the three basic base products that I use on a day-to-day basis when I don’t need full coverage or when I don’t want to put on much else other than kohl and a nude lipstick. These are really great when you have 5 minutes but you want to look effortlessly well put together. They are light, hydrating, extremely blendable and medium coverage. The Pro Conceal is already a cult classic among beauty bloggers and You Tubers. Here is a quick review on how well these three things work together.

L.A. Girl Pro BB Cream HD

This BB cream is more of a moisturizer and less of a light foundation. It has a smooth, creamy texture that is blendable and buildable. It is extremely hydrating, glides on the skin like magic and although it doesn’t hide all your imperfections, it blurs them out and gives you a natural, even skin-tone that is your skin but better. It is great for days when your skin is naturally glowing or feeling happy, on days when you want just that little bit of makeup to step out for a casual day at the mall. It is medium coverage, lasting 6-7 hours with powder touch-ups every 3 hours or so. This would depend on your skin type, but for the most part it is long wearing. It doesn’t cling on to dry patches (a blessing for girls like me who have dry skin), sits put on the skin controlling oil, leaving skin naturally mattified. It is easy on the pocket and worth a shot if you are looking at something that you can apply in 30 seconds using your fingers.

I am in the shade light medium.

L.A. Girl Pro Conceal HD

After listening to beauty bloggers worldwide rave about this concealer, I was looking to find a way to purchase it in India. So when Nykaa (our very own Sephora!) launched L.A. Girl in India, I was excited to try this one out. Although a lot of bloggers recommend using it for contouring or for colour correcting (neither of which I do on a daily basis); I decided to use it as a concealer (as the name suggests). It was a challenge for me to find the right shade online as they have such a wide colour range to match every skin-tone. From inspecting swatches on google, I bought medium beige, hoping it will be one shade lighter than my skin-tone (great for brightening under eyes). And hurray! It was the perfect shade for me.

I have never met a concealer that blends as beautifully as this one! It doesn’t seep into the fine lines under my eyes and gives me enough time to blend it evenly before it sets in place. It is deeply hydrating, with a smooth flowy texture that is easy to apply. It provides medium coverage and that’s okay because I never used a concealer everyday before I found this one, only because concealers made me feel so made-up. Just like the BB cream, this concealer blurs imperfections in the most natural way. If you need more coverage you could build it up. It will not hide serious dark circles or blue veins under the eyes but it will take care of redness or marks that need spot concealing.

The best part about this product is that it won’t make you feel like you have a load of product sitting under your eyes every time you blink or smile. It is extremely long wearing, doesn’t run or slide once set with powder and gives the most natural finish. If I had to find something to complain about, it would be the nail paint-like applicator that dispenses too much product; be careful how much you apply – a little goes a long way.

Other variants of PRO Conceal HD

I don’t ever contour my face other than using a bronzer on a fluffy brush to highlight cheekbones once in a while, so I’m not sure if I would buy a darker shade of the Pro Conceal HD for contouring. I’m also extremely skeptical about getting on the colour correcting band wagon. Sounds like a marketing gimmick to me! However, I’m tempted to try the Pro conceal peach colour corrector for concealing my dark circles. What do you think?

L.A. Girl Pro Face HD Matte Pressed Powder

That is a pretty darn long name for a compact powder. But, I have it memorized as I had to return two shades to finally find the one that was perfectly suited to my skin!

As a teenager, I had oily, acne prone skin that no compact could ever mattify! My skin was also very sensitive and any new compact I tried would break me out. So, I have tried many. This one however, is unique. To be honest, I don’t have oily skin anymore (post pregnancy my skin has become dry with an oily T zone), but this pressed powder is absolutely fantastic at setting foundation or concealer. It is finely milled, smooth and buttery, with very little fall out. The shade range is huge, covering all skin tones. It doesn’t feel artificial on wearing, doesn’t leave behind a powdery cast and sets to a natural finish. Great for day or night-time wear, it stays put for a good 4-5 hours if you are not out in the sun sweating. It also stands true to its claim of being mattifying and anti-shine.

The shade I use is creamy natural. This is a versatile shade in that it can suit several skin tones. It has a mild yellow undertone which is great for combating any redness and for brightening under eyes.

The compact comes with a decent applicator sponge and a handy mirror for on-the-go touch-ups. The packaging is sturdy and might even withstand a small fall.

All in all, I am impressed with the quality and price point of most L.A. Girl Pro HD base makeup products. They are really good quality, do what they claim and don’t irritate my sensitive skin unlike many high-end brands that I have tried before. Something doesn’t have to cost a hell lot of money to be this good. There are pleasant surprises everywhere; you must know where to look!
