Review: The Face Shop Natural Sun Eco Sebum Control Hydrating Sun Cream. Gosh, that’s a long one to remember!
If there was one piece of advice I would give my younger self it would be this – don’t be reckless, always wear sunscreen. I have extremely sensitive skin prone to redness, allergies and severe tanning with sun exposure – and, it is because of this sensitive nature of my skin, that no sunscreen ever (no matter how expensive) suited me. Sunscreens almost always broke me out or gave me an unpleasant reaction of some kind. After trying a new one and facing hell, I would stop trying to look for my ideal sunscreen. A few months would go by and something somewhere would remind me of how careless I was being with my skin care and I would go fishing once again – and the saga continued.
Six months ago, I got lucky. After trying skin care from The Face Shop (read my reviews here), I was tempted to try their sebum control sunscreen that had some raving reviews from Indian as well as international consumers. The pricing was steep but this time I was determined to find my sunscreen soul mate. And bless my stars, from the day that it arrived at my doorstop, it’s been a love affair made in heaven. This tube of goodness has reaffirmed my faith in the value of perseverance.
Call me crazy, but on days when I feel frivolous, I apply this sunscreen generously as a moisturizer all over my face and neck (and hands). Then I just sit down and take in the smell of summer and sunflowers.
Getting to the real stuff real quick (a bit too late for that huh?) – this sunscreen is all that it claims to be and more. It is a light-weight, white, creamy lotion with a faint, lingering scent of sunflower fields. All you need is a pea-sized amount to cover the face and neck area. It absorbs instantly, doesn’t leave behind a white cast or any sticky, oily residue. You get a very good quantity (100 ml) for the amount you pay and can be sure that it’s going to last you a while. The packaging is sturdy (and pretty, like everything from the brand), but no smaller sizes are available in India currently, which is a shame as you can’t carry such a big one in your handbag (in case you need to reapply or are going on a sunny vacation).
The sunscreen has sunflower sprout extracts that hydrate the skin and provide long-lasting protection from sun exposure. The SPF 40 PA+++ provides optimum sunblock, helps in pore care and controls the formation of wrinkles. The no-shine formula is a blessing for girls with oily skin. The product is cruelty free and claims to be waterproof (though I wouldn’t recommend jumping into the pool on a first date with anything that says waterproof on it).
All the theory aside, if you had to try one skin care product from the brand it ought to be this one (or the Chia Seed Hydrating Toner – read my review here).
For all you girls feeling distressed with trying to find good skin care for sensitive skin types, it might be worth your while (and your pennies) to try The Face Shop. They seem to be hastily progressing into my top 5 favourite beauty brands of 2018 (that retail in India). Until next time, XOXO
